Cascading custom applications on your Domino server (continued)
What about the client? On the Notes client machine, your best bet is to configure the machines to have a cascaded address book at the time that the Notes client is installed. Once those machines are out in the field it's a little harder to configure them. The change that needs to be made is identical to the one shown above for servers, modify the line with the NAMES= statement to include not only the NAMES.NSF file but the directory and filename of your application.
If this database is a new one, though, and your Notes users have been dispersed to the four corners of the globe, then it's a bit harder. Your best option in that scenario is to create a button (using LotusScript) and mail it to your users to perform the modification to their NOTES.INI file.
What would that button look like? Funny that you should ask; the logic to perform manipulation of the NOTES.INI file remotely will be the subject of my next column. Stay tuned for that article in next month's edition of DominoPower.
