Lotus Notes 5.0 LotusScript enhancements (continued)
FIGURE B

Here's a nice example of the new Notes outline (as well as other new interface elements). Roll over picture for a larger image.
NotesViewEntry
The NotesViewEntry class provides a new way of accessing elements in a view. The difference between this and a collection is the fact that the NotesViewEntry allows you to access rows that are categories, so a NotesViewEntry doesn't have to be a document.
NotesReplication
Finally, replication can be controlled via script. I predict that this will lead to some exciting and advanced replication systems.
NotesRichTextParagraphStyle
The format of a paragraph within a rich text item can now be set. This includes setting spacing, margins, etc.
More features In addition to the new classes, numerous existing classes have been enhanced with new methods and/or properties.
Also, it is true that the support for Java has been greatly expanded. We are bombarded with the many Internet acronyms: IIOP, COBRA, IMAP, and LDAP to name a few. Notes Release 5.0 supports all of these. Integration with the Internet is much more intense, but this does not signal doomsday for LotusScript. Just the reverse, in fact.
LotusScript is a strong full-featured language. The similarity to Visual Basic makes it an easy language to master and makes it easy for existing Visual Basic developers to make the move to Notes. The enhancements to the core language and the support in Lotus Notes prove that LotusScript is here to stay.
