Upgrading to Notes and Domino R5: an investment in your future (continued)

With Domino, you can easily manage a heterogeneous environment so you can leverage existing system resources, increase your scalability and manage server consolidation seamlessly. For example, you may have Windows NT as one of your operating systems as well as several AS/400 operating systems in place. Rather than migrating your entire organization to Windows NT, you can operate Domino R5 on both.

Lotus messaging software is easy to acquire. It supports the widest range of clients, from the rich dedicated Notes client to any standards-based mail client and even browsers, without any additional software requirements. We believe licensing is simple, flexible and straightforward, enabling you to acquire a messaging system that molds itself to the way your organization works -- not the other way around.

Configuration
Designing your Domino infrastructure can be easy and cost-effective, whether you're upgrading from previous versions of Domino or cc:Mail, migrating from host-based systems, or migrating from single-purpose products from Microsoft, Netscape, or other vendors like Novell. In many cases, your Domino R5 server can be up and running in minutes with its simple and flexible installation and configuration capabilities. Domino Servers and the new Domino Administrator -- an optimized administration tool for Domino Servers -- give you out-of-the box control over your entire deployment, even remote servers.

Server consolidation tools also let you take advantage of larger systems while ensuring that there is no disruption in service. And, built-in monitoring tools deliver online monitoring so you know exactly what is going on in your deployment the moment it is happening -- not when your users call to report service disruption.

Lotus and Domino R5 take those extra steps to help address the cost, time and resource issues of upgrading by providing Domino Upgrade Services to easily and automatically upgrade and migrate users from many other popular mail systems and applications. Built in upgrade tools are available to register users from an external directory and import their mail files which includes choices for users from cc:Mail, MS Mail, Exchange, Windows NT, any LDAP directory and Lotus Organizer for a smooth transition process. These tools provide easy, flexible registration of new users and upgrade of existing non-Notes users.

Training
Starting with Release 5, the new Notes client delivers the power of Notes, cc:Mail, and Organizer, coupled with the familiarity of browsers. And, for our existing customers, we've taken that extra step to ensure that your users can continue to use their familiar workspaces if they choose. For new or upgrading users, the new user interface reduces the amount of time, money or resources needed to train your end users. Further, Notes supports popular desktop applications including Lotus SmartSuite and Microsoft Word, making it easy to be productive without additional training requirements.

Messaging administration
Domino R5 includes many new messaging management features so you can better manage enterprise-wide messaging. The message store management enhancements deliver management tools to help administer the message store on a per user basis, set quotas and archive old messages. This reduces disk space and optimizes system resources, thereby system costs.
