I know some of you may be asking, "Why is a site that posts book reviews cool enough to be DominoPower Site of the Month?" Well, it's not so much about the content of BookIdeas.com, it's about how it was created.

BookIdeas.com does not run on Domino. According to its operator, that option is too expensive for a small hobby site with one-programmer. However, the HTML is also not hand coded. That takes too much time.

Webmaster Douglas Malcolm asked himself, "Why not harness the power of Notes to get access to all the advanced functionality I want, but have the database create my flat HTML files for me?"

Douglas goes on to explain that "Since the site is really a database of similar pages, I created a Notes database that accepts the pertinent data, sorts, categorizes, and spits HTML out to my vanilla NT/IIS server."

The database is now set up to accept data on all the vital functions of the site: reviews, new reviewers, and featured book reviews.

As you can see in Figure A, the site has many Notes-like views. Douglas keeps the same views in his database, with scripted agents that convert the data to HTML for posting to a NT/IIS server.
