Dynamically generated JavaScript libraries (continued)

Full instructions on how to use it are included in the database. To get started right away, try some of the sample JavaScript available on the Web, or use the built-in dynamic script set DASL_Sniffer. A single Web agent, LoadLibrary, is included. LoadLibrary will generate a dynamic script library for a <SCRIPT SRC=> tag.

The Script Library will continue to be developed as a means of furthering the advancement of Domino Web development. Send any suggestions for improvements to the author.

Do it tomorrow
For those of us who've been developing Web pages since the early days of Mosaic, it's clear that the future is dynamic. Static pages have given way to database-driven Web sites, and code libraries will follow the same path. In the future, your dynamic JavaScript library may become a full scale code broker, capable of real-time customizing, signing, compressing, caching, gathering statistics and even billing for code, adapting to browser versions and spoken language as it does so.

It will be an integral part of the Web development and change management process, as specialist script programmers maintain libraries of well-used code, and introduce new functions for new pages. The surfer will see little of this, other than more efficiently managed Web pages and -- we would hope -- many fewer pages failing with script errors.

Web servers that lack the integrated database and workflow management of Domino will be at a disadvantage in this integrated, dynamic future, so long as Domino developers continue to exploit that powerful combination.
