Domino portals (continued)
DominoEdge DominoEdge, which can be found at http://www.dominoedge.com is kind of the dark horse in the emerging field of Domino portal sites. I call it a dark horse because, first of all, the site uses a black background and different shades of gray with yellow text for most of its design (which actually makes it pretty cool-looking) and, secondly, because it hasn't officially launched yet. It was supposed to launch on 9-9-99, the same day as the Sega Dreamcast, but the launch has been delayed.
As of 11-5-99, the following areas of DominoEdge have content: News, Reviews, Previews, Editorials, Discussion and Tips. The News section is, by far, the most fleshed out of these sections. It has a lot of really great links to relevant news articles, as well as useful short summaries of the stories, so you can make an informed decision about whether or not you want to read the full story. The effective use of graphics also makes this news page easy to quickly navigate and absort the latest news.
The following sections had no content as of 11-5-99: Interviews, Bookstore, Companies, Jobs and Search. But despite its incomplete state, this is definitely a site to watch, if only because the site is 100% Domino-based. The creators really practice what they preach, and I'm quite frankly looking forward to stealing some good ideas from this site.
The bottom line is that DominoEdge has big dreams and big potential, but it might be stretching itself a little thin. It's definitely a site to have handy in your bookmarks, though, since the potential for getting some really good information from this site is great.
Notes.Net This column wouldn't be complete without a mention of Notes.Net (at http://www.notes.net), but the mention will be short because this is an obvious choice and most people already know about it. If you don't already know about it, by all means get your mouse a-clickin' and go discover all of what Notes.Net has to offer. There is a plethora of articles, tips, templates, sample applications and online documentation. Just make sure you don't read too much at one sitting or your head will explode.
Notes.Net is also the place to go if you want to find the very best Lotus Notes/Domino discussion groups. The one I always check when I'm looking for the answer to a question or doing research is the Notes/Domino Gold Release Forum. I rarely come away disappointed or empty-handed. And, since the closure of the Water Cooler Discussion on the Lotus Developer site, this is by far the best game in town for Domino-related discussion.
Lotus411 If you're looking for a Notes add-on product, the place to go is Lotus411 (at http://www.lotus411.com). This site provides links to over 3000 Lotus Notes/Domino-related products. It's definitely the place to go if you are researching different third-party solutions and/or training programs. There are a lot of great tips on this site but Lotus411 has also created a special site for Domino tips as you'll see from the description of the DominoTips site below.
