Domino portals (continued)

DominoTips.com
DominoTips.com is the spawn of Lotus411. Both sites provide access to the same very useful tip information, but the DominoTips site has the added bonus of providing links to the latest Domino-related news as well.

Lotus411/DominoTips aggressively solicits tips by offering $50 for any tip that they circulate in one of their newsletters. The end result of this aggressive tip solicitation is that there are a lot of useful tips here to explore. I'm planning on taking at least an hour in the near future to look through the tips. Maybe I should take two hours. Or three. You can find DominoTips.com at…you guessed it, http://www.dominotips.com.

DominoHive
DominoHive bills itself as the breaking news and networking center for Domino, but the most compelling part of their mission is really the networking center part of their mission. Through online workshops, features such as "Ask The Experts" and live chats, DominoHive has aimed its sights at a very specific sector of the Domino market that needs developing: bringing Domino professionals together in a central place where they can network and learn more effectively. To date, however, the DominoHive has yet to fully deliver on this promise. They have offered some online workshops, but these have been few and far-between.

That said, however, there are three areas of DominoHive that are definitely worth checking out. First, the Popular Links section is great and includes links to a lot of smaller sites that I've never seen before. Second, the Library section offers information and reviews about a pretty comprehensive list of Domino-related books, including some reviews. And, lastly, the User Groups link provides a wealth of information about Domino user groups around the world that I have not been able to find anywhere else.

On the negative side, however, the Products, Services, and Training links are not quite as good as other sites that offer more useful links in these areas, including, most notably, Lotus411. DominoHive, like many of the other sites listed in this column, is still a very young site and has an enormous amount of potential. I just hope they decide to focus more on the networking element than on trying to be a full-service portal site and spreading themselves too thin. DominoHive can be found at http://www.dominohive.com.

DominoPower
Yes, I can't let a column go by without giving the Mother Ship a plug. DominoPower as a portal, I hear you ask? Well, yes, a very specific portal. DominoPower is one of the richest sources of free Domino-related articles available. The gateway to exploring this richness is simply to click on the Back Issues button (or visit http://www.dominopower.com/backissues/backissues.html) and explore all the articles that have been published, dating back to the dark ages of 1998 (August 1998 is when the first issue was published). Another rich source of information and help are the DominoPower PowerBoards. This area is populated by many experienced and well-meaning fellow Domino and Notes administrators. Also, DominoPower has a daily news section that helps to keep you abreast of the latest Domino-related happenings. And be sure to remember to sign-up for the DominoPower Tips newsletter by going to http://www.dominopower.com and submitting your name and email address.
