Domino portals, part deux -- but wait, there's more! (continued)
Martin Scott Consulting, home of the SuperSearch Next stop should be at http://www.martinscott.com. This site was awarded the DominoPower Site of the Month award one year ago in December 1998. I have to thank reader Thomas Duff for sending me email to remind me about this site. It definitely is one I am guilty of under-using and one that holds a lot of power for the savvy and patient user.
This site has a lot of good Domino-related information, but the main feature of the Martin Scott site is called the MSC Lotus Domino SuperSearch, which you can check out directly at http://www.martinscott.com/supersearch. What this search essentially does is let you search up to 33 Domino-related sites by submitting just one query, as shown in Figure B.

The Martin Scott Consulting SuperSearch page will help you search up to 33 Domino-related sites. Click picture for a larger image.
Unlike searching from a site such as SearchDomino.com, however, a window is opened for each site that you search. While this might not be a good tool to use for your day-to-day general searches, it is an excellent site to use when you are researching a topic or scouring the entire Web for an answer to your specific problem. Of course you could choose a single site to search. But part of the real usefulness and joy of using this site is that it makes you aware of all the other sources of information that exist and provides you with an interesting way to link into them and explore. Just use caution, since searching on multiple sites at once is processor intensive and could cause your browser to crash.
Group computing If you have aspirations towards management or if you just want to be better informed, you definitely need to set aside some time to visit the Group Computing site at http://www.groupcomputing.com. Group Computing is a paper-based magazine you can receive free with a subscription, but it also has a wealth of information online, as you can see in Figure C.
FIGURE C
The Group Computing site contains a lot of great articles with a managerial perspective. Click picture for a larger image.
Keep in mind, however, that the articles on the site don't really deal with Domino programming tips you can steal or heavy-duty how-to development articles. The articles come at Lotus Notes/Domino from a managerial perspective and include many case studies of companies (worth their weight in gold) that are using Notes. Sometimes it's so easy to get caught up in day-to-day development that you lose your perspective on what the ultimate goal of the applications you're developing really is.
Since Group Computing isn't limited to just discussing Lotus Notes/Domino, you can keep up with news and articles about other groupware technologies as well. Reading Group Computing will help keep you grounded in the real world and also help you to discuss things with your boss(es) in an intelligent way.
Frank Cseh's Lotus Notes site This is another past DominoPower Site of the Month winner (August 1998), which you can check out at http://www.best.com/~cseh/. Frank Cseh has been a Lotus Notes Developer since 1991 and lives in San Jose, California (hey, Frank, I'm right near you in Cupertino!) Frank also has an article elsewhere in this issue.
