Leveraging corporate knowledge through automatic classification (continued)

"Document collections become the corporate memory bank."

Document collections become the corporate memory bank. Multidimensional views of corporate documents can be used to uncover the hidden order in text. Since usage of text reflects the behavior of authors that create it and the readers who read it, text becomes the mirror image of organization behavior, knowledge, and collaboration.

By tracking the taxonomy of documents users create and read, corporations can capture the knowledge shared between authors and readers. This becomes powerful information to facilitate the productivity of collaborative groups throughout the corporation, and permits corporations to match information need with knowledgeable user to facilitate the knowledge transfer process.

In a Domino environment, this "Knowledge of Knowledge" can be used to productively direct messaging, workflow routing, and workgroup design, facilitating a model of coherent communications so that the entire corporation can pull together in lock-step to create the strongest possible corporate force.

"Tracking the flow of knowledge throughout the organization can have a number of business benefits."

Tracking the flow of knowledge throughout the organization can have a number of business benefits. By using "knowledge of knowledge," ownership, structure and flow, productive collaboration between users and groups of users can be facilitated, creating a powerful driver to enhance corporate core competency through collaborative management.

Documents are not only the currency of business, but they represent a rich collaborative platform through which productive business is conducted. As a result, classification systems represent the language of corporate business and reflect the personality of corporate culture.

Corporate culture telegraphs corporate uniqueness -- the essence of what makes you different from the competition. Language is how we express our thoughts in communicating with each other, our customers, our suppliers and our competition. By tracking patterns of behavior through a classification index, corporations can achieve early recognition of significant patterns as they form, get a jump on solving corporate problems and take advantage of business opportunities to achieve competitive advantage.

"With the latest trend towards cutting product time-to-market in half on a continuous and incremental basis, auto-classification can become a powerful driver for success."

The ability of classification systems to represent the mirror image of corporate behavior can deliver direct and immediate feedback to incrementally drive corporate productivity to the next level. With the need to cut product time-to-market in half on a continuous and incremental basis, auto-classification can become a powerful driver for success.

Thomas Watson Junior's famous sign "Think" drove IBM's focus for so many years. Now it needs to be updated to "Think Faster and in Parallel to compete at Internet Speed". The need to increasingly drive for competitive advantage through shorter time-to-market with high-quality price-competitive product becomes an essential ingredient to survive in a global market struggling through transition. Miss the short window of opportunity by a small margin today, and you can drive your thriving business into the ground with little salvage value in short order.
