Hitchhiker's Guide to Lotusphere 2000 (continued)

Best Overheard Story
I had dinner at the Universal Studios party in a gigantic tree stump. While wiping BBQ sauce off my chops I overheard a story that, at one time, the entire source code for Lotus Notes 1.0 was stolen from someone who had taken it home on a Bernoulli cartridge to work on. Apparently, Lotus security made their lives pretty difficult for a while. I don't know about you, but I think it's a little late for any Redmonians to go dumpster-diving in Cambridge for the keys to the castle.

Best Quote
From an attendee at the Iris/Lotus lab: "Are there plans to support the Insert key in version 6 of Notes?"

Where are all of the R5 users?
Your intrepid journalist facilitated one of the Birds of a Feather sessions this year (in case you're wondering it was BOF 340 - Migrating Applications to R5). We distributed a survey that was completed and returned by 52 attendees. By the way, if you'd like a copy of the complete results, drop me a line at recheandia@dominopower.com. Or, if you'd like to participate in the survey, point your browser to http://206.50.219.145/survey.nsf.

Some of the feedback that we got from the attendees was a little surprising:

  • The percentage of attendees that have completed their migration to R5 is 4%;

  • The percentage of attendees that have delayed their migration because of Y2K is 33%;

  • The percentage of attendees that have delayed their migration because of budget considerations is 10%

  • The percentage of attendees that have delayed migration waiting for a more reliable version of R5 is 15%-Ouch!;

  • The percentage of attendees that have formally tested their R4 application under R5 is 25%.

But the best number of all was this one: of those attendees that had tested their R4 applications under R5, on average, 77% of those applications ran without a single error under R5. Now, that was a number worth going to Orlando for!
