Java code can be developed to integrate the two products. Servlets running on WebSphere can access Domino data via JDBC or Domino Java objects. In addition, Java code that accesses Domino can be included in a WebSphere generated Java Server Page. Currently, the integration of the two products is not tight. A certain level of expertise is needed to make them work together.
The future
IBM has promised tighter integration in future releases of the two products. This includes LotusScript support in WebSphere, ability to program Java Server Pages from LotusScript, and a single logon and a single administration module for both. Clearly, the future of development from the IBM perspective includes both Domino and WebSphere.
The to-be-published "Domino Development with Java" will include information concerning Domino and WebSphere integration. It will be available from Manning publications at http://www.manning.com.
