TRADESHOW GUIDE
Ashley's mobile tradeshow guide
By Ashley Parsons

There are some exciting conferences scheduled this June and July for those interested in mobile computing. They sure know how to pick the locations for these things, too. Check out these upcoming tradeshows in Palm Springs, Orlando, New York City, and Barcelona.

Symbol User's Conference & Software Developer's Conference
Obviously, if you don't use a Symbol device, the User's conference won't be worth your time, but the Software Developer's Conference is for anyone interested in learning more about this multi-functional device. It's also for anyone interested in spending a week in Palm Springs in June!

Symbol is known mostly for their handheld barcode scanners, but they've also started providing more computer-based handheld devices and wireless communication networks for voice and data.

The Symbol User's Conference takes place June 4-7, 2000 in Palm Springs, CA. The Symbol Software Developer's Conference takes place June 7-10, 2000, also in Palm Springs. For more information, visit http://www.symbol.com/conference.

Microsoft Tech-Ed
The Symbol conferences and the Microsoft Tech-Ed show are being held simultaneously. This show is not so much a "mobile" focused show, but if you want to keep up with the latest and greatest from Microsoft and their vendors, this is the premier event. If you really need an excuse, there will be a few sessions on Windows CE powered devices as well.

This year, Microsoft Tech-Ed is being held in Orlando, FL. Microsoft always hosts a great show, and this should be no exception, with activities scheduled after the conference at Universal Studios' Islands of Adventure and Jam Sessions where musicians, singers, and music lovers are invited to join in the fun. Microsoft will provide the instruments; you provide the tunes and jam all night.

The conference is being held June 5-8, 2000 in Orlando, FL. For more information, visit http://microsoft.com/events.

PC Expo
Again, this conference isn't necessarily a mobile-focused show, but Palm, Inc. will be exhibiting in a large booth with all their Strategic Alliance partners showcasing their mobile computing technology. This event's focus will be on Internet and Web technologies.

The PC Expo will be held June 27-29, 2000 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City. For more information, visit http://pcexpo.com.

Go Mobile Europe
¿Habla Español? If so, you will definitely want to attend the first ever Go Mobile Europe show in Barcelona, Spain this summer. Hosted by Mobile Insights, this event invites IT professionals from leading international companies to come and learn how to acquire and deploy mobile computing technology. You'll be able to see the latest trends from the leading vendors in the mobile computing industry during the on-stage demonstrations.

The two and a half day conference will be held at the Hotel Arts in Barcelona, July 9-11, 2000. For more information, visit http://www.mobileinsights.com/gomo2000about.html.
