Making the case for running Domino on Linux (continued)
Linux has built-in firewall capabilities. This allows you to do things like close off specific ports, track logins, and filter out certain types of traffic.
Community support for Linux
There's a lot of available support for Linux. There are literally thousands of Web sites devoted to Linux and helping people with Linux problems. Many of them are listed at http://www.linux.org. There's also a large documentation project that has hundreds of "How-to" documents on doing everything from configuring an Ethernet card to setting up a Linux-based ISP. That's at http://www.linuxdoc.org.
Of course, it also helps that many large companies are enthusiastic about Linux. IBM has been a great supporter of Linux and has offered several incentives for using Linux on their servers. This type of support from the business and Internet communities, combined with the exciting new features in the 2.4 kernel, bodes well for the future of Linux.
Stay tuned for the next installment of this series for a how-to guide on the installation of Domino on Linux.
