LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Bitten by the Notes bug
In this month's Letters to the Editor, an Australian reader responds to last month's tongue-in-cheek editorial, "Is Notes a virus?" with his personal story of how he too contracted the Notes virus.

Happy Notes virus victim
I had the pleasure of reading your article today headed "Is Notes a virus?" (at http://www.dominopower.com/issues/issue200011/dpeditorial1100001.html). Before I had the opportunity to enter the Notes arena, I was involved in the accounting environment. I did high-level maths in high school. I studied accounting at university. I entered the chartered accounting world soon after. What more can I ask for? Upon returning from a two-week holiday, which became a two-month soul searching holiday break, I found little to no satisfaction in returning to the dull and monotonous lifestyle of debits and credits. I decided to dabble in a product called Lotus Notes.

A contract recruiting agency dropped their business card on my table and hypnotized me with their offer to triple my income! Within twelve months, I was hooked and pulled in for life.

This was almost seven years ago. Since then I have had the opportunity to work with the "Big Boys" such as IBM, Digital, and Maxell Corporation. I have had the chance to write a Domino product that is being sold around the world. I have had the opportunity to work in the United States for two and a half years (I'm a born-n-raised Australian). Where else could a simple accountant get this much opportunity!

Nowadays I'm dabbling in the Macromedia Flash and Dreamweaver. Not because I'm leaving the Domino world but simply because these products can be used to give Web sites a lot more marketing impact AND they work well with Domino! And soon I will set up a Domino site for me and my co-Domino-friends, just like a lot of other Domino Enthusiasts have already done.

So, I tell more and more people every day, coming from a simple accountant, if I can write code in Domino, then so can anybody!

This is why your article has been a joy to read. I don't think I'll ever leave the Lotus Domino world. Well, not too soon anyway.

Thanks!
Raz
