COOL STUFF FROM LOTUSPHERE
Lotusphere exhibits and exhibitionists
By David Gewirtz

There was a lot to see and do at this year's Lotusphere convention. We met a lot of friendly folks down in Orlando who graciously posed for our cameras (and a few who chased us down begging to have their pictures taken). We'd now like to present our gallery of Lotusphere exhibitors and share a little of what we learned during our journey around the showroom floor.

VSI-FAX for Notes
VSI-FAX for Notes (at http://www.vsi.com/notes/index.html) touts itself as being more than an email gateway, combining Lotus Notes with an enterprise-wide fax solution. It was designed with both Notes users and administrators in mind, using Notes databases to manage faxing features such as load balancing, least cost routing, email integrations, and automatic inbound routing. As the smiling young men in Figure A were eager to point out, with VSI-FAX, sending a fax from Notes is the same as sending any email message.

Trend Micro Inc.
Trend Micro Inc., (at http://www.antivirus.com) used Lotusphere 2001 as an opportunity to announce shipment of the latest version of its Lotus Notes virus protection software, ScanMail Version 2.5 for Lotus Notes. The company's booth is pictured in Figure B.

This updated version of ScanMail adds to the solution's virus scanning and cleaning, message handling, and integration features. ScanMail for Lotus Notes provides anti-virus support for Domino on Windows NT, AS/400 and S/390 IBM platforms, AIX, and Sun Solaris platforms. It uses real-time email virus-scanning features to detect and clean viruses from incoming messages before they have a chance to infect the desktop.

Sparkfinger
Sparkfinger (at http://www.sparkfinger.com) debuted its new name at Lotusphere 2001. The Minnesota-based ASP (Application Service Provider) is a Lotus Premier partner. The company supports businesses of all sizes with a variety of solutions, including application and Web hosting, sales force automation, Gateway fax solutions, migrations, e-commerce solutions, training, and development. Sparkfinger founder Robert W. Carlson said the company's new name conveys what the company is about, which is "to help companies use technology to spark their business in the right direction for the future." As you can see in Figure C, Sparkfinger got our attention by handing out cool little flashlights.
