A snapshot of the Lotus Notes hiring landscape (continued)
In the meantime, ride out this wave with a few helpful hints:
- Keep your technologies current: if not working in an R5 environment, try to take classes. If you have no Web development experience, start developing sites on the side.
- Get certified and keep it current: candidates with certifications get hired faster and often get paid more. If you're R4 certified, get updated. Most employers are using R5 and will look for that training.
Most importantly, keep a positive attitude. If you're working, don't frown; companies lay off those who seem unhappy. If you're between positions, smile; companies like to hire cheerful people. Keep smiling…until next time.

DominoPower Contributing Editor Nancy Hand is primary Notes admin at a remote site for a large corporation. She earned both Novell and Microsoft certifications in network engineering before being introduced to Lotus Notes. The 3,000 users she supports constantly challenge Nancy to keep up with their creative missteps. With a background in art, she brings a different perspective to working with computers and their users. In the past, Nancy has worked in the fields of accounting, criminal justice, and museum display. To balance the challenges of the job, she continues to draw and sculpt between stabs at writing novels and designing knitware.
