JOB SEARCH TIPS
Looking for a Notes job?
By Dan Simmons

Over the last two months, we've taken a close look at the job market for Lotus Notes professionals, culminating in the personal job experiences you shared in "A snapshot of the Lotus Notes hiring landscape" at http://www.dominopower.com/issues/issue200106/contractors0601001.html. Not surprisingly, we found Notes professionals are navigating choppy career waters in several parts of the country.

DominoPower Editor-in-Chief David Gewirtz discussed this situation with me, and I was impressed by David's desire to help. David asked me to pen an article aimed at helping "connect job seekers with jobs as smoothly as possible."

Thus, this article focuses on methods and tools that can help to increase the impact of your job search. I'll examine niche Notes job sites and search engines and offer an overview of the major job boards and networks of recruiters. Hopefully, these resources will help arm you with the ammo you need if you're hunting for a job, plan to be soon, or just want to be prepared.

Lotus Notes-specific job sites
We'll begin this survey with job sites specifically designed for Lotus Notes programmers and administrators.

Lotus Notes Jobs
If you're looking for a traditional job board, Lotus Notes Jobs (at http://www.lotusnotesjobs.com) can't be beat. It offers user-friendly job searching and resume posting. The first job listings on the site focus on U.S. jobs. Check out the second listing at the bottom of the page to find positions in Canada, Bermuda, and other countries worldwide. The site has had 120 jobs posted in the last 90 days, and since the searchable resume-posting feature is new, your resume should be easy to find by employers.

Lotus Notes Jobs has been on the Web since 1995 and has a steady employer clientele. In addition to searching current job postings, you can search position openings that are a few months old. It couldn't hurt to send your resume to old postings; perhaps the position remained vacant. At least you know the company hires Notes professionals, so sending your resume isn't a waste of time.

Just Notes Jobs
The largest of the Lotus specialty sites is Just Notes Jobs (at http://www.justnotesjobs.com), with 80 jobs posted in the last 60 days. Along with an excellent selection of jobs, this site offers resume posting and email job alerts, supplying you with daily notices of jobs you indicated would be of interest to you.
