But don't take my word for it. Read what Dan Velasco, a Senior Technical Editor for DominoPower Magazine, says about what writing has done for his career. Dan wrote his first article for DominoPower in December 1998.

My relationship with DominoPower Magazine is one of the most important of my career. Not only does it give me recognition from other professionals in the Domino community, but it also makes me hyper-aware of what is going on with Domino and what the trends are, which in turn makes me a more valuable employee.

When I started working with Notes and Domino development, I was an administrative assistant with a B.A. in English. Now, a little over four years later, I manage a Web Development team. I attribute my success partly to certification, partly to determination, and partly to the writing I've done for DominoPower Magazine. I know that it has helped me to land the job I currently have and will help me continue to advance my career in the future.

Knowing how to use a technology such as Domino and trying to explain how to use it effectively to other people are two separate things. The process of writing articles and tips has helped me to refine my Domino development and administration skills immensely, and it often opens my eyes to possibilities I would otherwise not have seen. Even if what I write were never read, the learning experience itself would be worth its weight in gold.

I get feedback and ideas from people all over the world. It's a great feeling to know that I'm contributing back to the Domino community that has helped to enrich my own life so much.

searchDomino
The busiest Notes-related site on the Web is probably searchDomino at http://www.searchdomino.com. Joyce Chutchian is the Site Editor and offered some advice for aspiring authors. The best ways for people to contribute and become well known are the following:

Forums
Chutchian suggests visitors to the site "Contribute frequently to our administrator or developer forums, or become a guest moderator on our forums. Here they can share their expertise and help other users or direct them to other resources. We have developer and administrator forums." The forums are located at http://searchdomino.discussions.techtarget.com/WebX?50@@.ee76ebc and http://searchdomino.discussions.techtarget.com/WebX?50@@.ee7740b.
