Easy steps to boost your name recognition, resume, and overall industry exposure (continued)

Now let's look at print publications or print/Web combinations.

Group Computing
My favorite print publication for the Notes community is Group Computing. I spoke with Lori Piotrowski, who manages reader-supplied articles and asked her to write a note directly to you, our readers, on writing for Group Computing. Her reply to you all is as follows:

You have technical expertise, and we need technical articles. How about putting that expertise down on paper (or in an electronic file) and sharing it with your fellow Lotus technical professionals? Articles for our technical section should teach users how to do something with the Lotus family of products. Each month, we have a cover topic--you can find this on our editorial calendar, available on our Web site--and two or three articles pertaining to this topic. In addition, every issue contains one or more system administration or architecture articles and application development or programming articles. Technical articles should be between 2,500 and 3,000 words and should include two to four screen captures. Articles are acquired approximately four months before publication.

Direct your proposals, outlines, articles, and questions about proposed articles and our acquisitions process to Lori Piotrowski at lorip@groucomputing.com, Senior Acquisitions Manager, or Libby Ingrassia Schwarz at libbys@groupcomputing.com, Editor.

On a side note, look for an article in Group Computing from yours truly in an upcoming issue.

Advisor
Advisor Media has a number of publications that could interest our readers. I won't list them individually, but they cover topics including Lotus Notes Development, Notes Administration, WebSphere, XML (eXtensible Markup Language), Office technologies, Visual Basic, Lotus Strategies, and many more. Writer information can be found at http://www.advisor.com/WriterInfo.

Additionally, you can host an area of Advisor.com. Advisor.com is a great site for expert advice, and you may qualify to be the top expert of an Advisor Zone. There are limited opportunities to become an official host.

If this unique opportunity sounds right for you, show your expertise and commitment by becoming a regular contributor to Advisor Zones. For more info, go to http://www.advisor.com/wtips.nsf/submitarticle?open.

Hosting an Advisor Zone gives you many benefits, such as:

  • You are presented as the resident expert of your Advisor Zone;

  • You are promoted in Advisor.com and Advisor publications as the host of the Advisor Zone;

  • Your business is also presented, so you gain the advertising benefits of prominent marketing on Advisor.com;

  • You contribute a featured column and other content;

  • You host forums, evaluate tips, and help set the direction of your Advisor Zone;

  • You get on the inside track for various Advisor activities, including new Advisor Zones that match your expertise.
