DOMINOPOWER SITE OF THE MONTH
Flashy site isn't just fun and spy games
By Steve Niles

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to check out December's DominoPower Site of the Month. The site belongs to CIA, but not the CIA you're thinking of. It stands for Clear Investigative Advantage. The site is designed to allow you to request criminal, civil, and other types of background checks. You can find it at http://www.ciadvantage.com, and it's pictured in Figure A.

The CIA Web site integrates Domino with many other aspects of Web development. According to CIA's Jason Johnston, they use a lot of JavaScript to do the validation on the forms. "Based on what you have selected on the 'request background' form, you are presented with validation on what needs to be selected or typed next," Johnston says.

If you're into bells and whistles, as I am, they make use awesome use of Flash for both the intro and normal navigation. On the main page, you maneuver a riflescope in order to make your navigation selections to the accompaniment of the Mission Impossible theme. They make use of frames so that the menu doesn't have to reload every time a selection is made.

All these files are stored on pages, forms, or other elements in the Notes database. Says Johnston, "The entire back-end process is also handled in Domino with emails being sent to verify requests, with links directly to the requests so that clients can very easily check the status of their requests." They also send out emails with links when a request has been completed. They run in a paperless environment, keeping everything online.

If you'd like to try the site out for yourself, just login with the following information:

It's an amazing example of Domino in action. And don't worry, it's not going to self-destruct in 30 seconds.
