Mick's travel tricks: Notes client setup for easy connectivity (continued)

On the Mail tab, things should be set for a Local mail file with type-ahead and address resolution all set to Local Only. See Figure F.

FIGURE F

Here's the home location Mail tab. Roll over picture for a larger image.

On the Advanced/Basics tab, there are two ways to manage time zone information: do it here or have Windows manage it. I find that the best way of doing this is to set the "Use operating system's time zone settings" to No. When you do this, you can then select the time zone for the location and also choose whether Daylight Savings is to be honored. Doing it this way means that when you switch locations in Notes, Notes re-sets Windows' clock and time zone. Otherwise you have to reset the Windows time zone and clock yourself, as well as the Notes location information. If you have access to the Lotus Knowledgebase (you can try the new Lotus/IBM support Web site) look at item 171839, which enlarges on these settings (just type 171839 in the "filter results by keywords" entry field).

I'll discuss some tips for working in multiple time zones in another article. In the next installment of this series, however, I'll provide some tips for setting up Notes to make life just a little bit easier for you, the traveler.
