Beta watch: Notes and Domino 6 (continued)

According to NotesOSS, "There are many more steps to come, including the expansion of nimbus.Development's Bootloader technology, but the very first step in any effort is going to be the adding of infrastructural components for JSP delivery." You can learn more about these efforts at http://notesoss.org/notesoss.nsf/pgDominoTomcat?OpenPage.

But will their efforts even be necessary? On February 21, 2002, Mark Baard reported in searchDomino (at http://searchdomino.techtarget.com/originalContent/0,289142,sid4_gci803493,00.html), that IBM's Lotus Software division may only have been testing the market when it announced the removal of Garnet. According to his article, some users and analysts think the company hasn't yet decided what, if any, Java development environment it will include in the final release.

The fact that Garnet has been left out of this final beta release may be the last nail in the coffin, however. Instead of Garnet, Notes and Domino 6 may use an embedded version of IBM's WebSphere application server. Whatever turns out to be the case, you've got an opportunity now to get your opinions heard.
