Dan at 100 tips and counting (continued)

The Domino URL Cheat Sheet article from Iris Today can be found at http://notes.net/today.nsf/62f62847467a8f78052568a80055b380/ca5230f9baf39fe1852564b5005e8419.

Tip #4: Three tips to be more productive with Sametime Connect
This tip was published on November 2, 2001. Even though the title of this publication and the tips is "DominoPower," I know that many of you are working with many of the other powerful Lotus products out there, like Sametime and QuickPlace. That's why I try to include tips about these products from time-to-time. I like this tip both because it talks about Sametime and because it is something general users can put to work right away as well.

I've put together three quick tips that will help you be more productive when using Sametime Connect.

Extend your reach with an AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) login
Having an AIM login will enable people outside your company to see when you are online so that they can chat with you, all while you're still using Sametime Connect. You can register for an AIM login through the Sametime Connect menu by going to People-->AOL Instant Messenger Services-->Register. If you have any problems, you can also just go to http://aim.aol.com.

Once you have an AIM login, go to People-->Log On to AOL Instant Messenger. Once you're logged onto AIM, you can add other AIM users to your People/Buddy list.

If you like, you can also modify your mail signature to include your AIM name (i.e., "AIM: danvelasco9"). Just open your Inbox view and on the action bar click Tools-->Preferences and then the Signature tab.

Avoid appearing active when you're away
To avoid people seeing you as active when you're away, go to Options-->Preferences and click the Status tab. In the "Automatically change my status" section at the bottom, set the "Active to Away" timeout option equal to what your screen saver is set to. For me, this is five minutes. This way, you'll avoid appearing online when you're really not. And, as always, you can use the manual "I Am Away" or "Do Not Disturb Me" messages to immediately change your Sametime status.

Launch Sametime Connect at startup
To launch Sametime Connect at startup, go to Options-->Launch at Startup.

Tip #5: Using Notes to access and replicate Notes.net databases
This tip was published on January 18, 2002. I liked this tip because it was something people could do right away to see a site most of us use every day (Notes.net) in a different light. I didn't know, for instance, just how huge the Notes.net Gold Forum was, and I have a newfound respect for the site. Doing the research for this tip also resulted in our company taking the Notes.net discussion template mentioned below and modifying it for use on our own Web sites. I was browsing Notes.net the other day, as I'm known to do occasionally, and I noticed a link that caught my eye that read, "Replicate Notes.net". I had heard about replicating Notes.net databases before, but I had never done so. But since I'm always looking for new things to do and to tell you about, I decided to go ahead and give it a whirl. What I found is that it's relatively easy and kind of fun (if you're a geek). You can get complete instructions on how to do this from an Iris Today article entitled, "Viewing Notes.net in its native Notes format," at http://notes.net/today.nsf/lookup/native_notes.
