Options can be set to process all or only selected documents from the database. We selected all the data and columns. There are additional options to make filter settings and settings for grouping, sorting, formatting, column names, and addition and deletion of available columns. The Column Designer is shown in Figure A.

To do a By Region analysis, the Format Manager is handy to select additional fields, enter formulae and expressions, and save the Format. We selected the "region" field from the Format Manager Field list. If you save a Format, you can use it later and process new data. The Format Manager is pictured in Figure B.

The computed column is a nice feature. For example, to find out profit per customer, one can create a computed column and add an expression "Value - Cost".

Once all settings are complete, click on the IntelliVIEW icon. This will process the data and display it in the grid.

IntelliVIEW grid
In the IntelliVIEW grid, you'll see the columns you asked for grouped by month, as shown in Figure C.

To see data grouped by Region, drag and drop the Region column under the search bar. Sub-grouping can be done by region, by month, by dragging month under region. Sorting and Filters can be used. Right-clicking in the grid opens up a context menu to find group totals, count, find minimum, maximum, average, and give a caption. One can find out average sales, cost of sales per region, by sales person, and so on. Sales By Region is shown in Figure D.

Clicking on the chart tool can create Line, Pie, Point, and Area charts.

Printing, sharing and saving your report
You can print directly from IntelliVIEW. Before printing, page setup can be done to generate sophisticated output.

The reports in the grid can be exported to different formats like PDF, Excel, HTML, XML, Text, etc. An interesting feature is visual export to Excel or PDF; it even saves the layout in the new format with useful email capabilities.

How it works
When a report is generated for the first time, the data is saved in a temporary XML file and displayed in the IntelliVIEW grid. This enables rapid manipulation since the XML file is being accessed and not the Notes database.

Integrate IntelliVIEW for Notes with your application
APIs to launch the IntelliVIEW grid and Column Designer/Format Manager are available to provide an interface between IntelliVIEW and the Notes database.

IntelliVIEW for Notes is an uncomplicated tool for a business user who wants to analyze data on the fly with no programming effort. Above all, the analysis can be carried out rapidly.
