IBM Lotus LearningSpace - Virtual Classroom
Virtual Classroom is an e-learning system designed to enable real-time collaboration between instructors and learners, making it an ideal solution for organizations that need to frequently train geographically dispersed employees, partners, and suppliers.

Virtual Classroom is modular in design and has a standards-based architecture so that it can integrate with existing LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) systems. It will also be able to integrated with the LMS (Learning Management System), currently planned for availability from IBM Lotus by the end of the year.

The technology is built on Lotus collaborative technologies such as IBM Lotus Sametime, the company's instant messaging and Web conferencing platform. Virtual Classroom offers white-boarding, application sharing, and chat features that allow students to interact with each other and with the instructor. There are also features designed to allow instructors to develop class outlines, track attendance, certify completion of courses, and to secure feedback on the effectiveness of courses. Record and playback capabilities are included to allow students and instructors to archive sessions for later use.

Lotus LearningSpace - Virtual Classroom is planned for availability on October 14, 2002 through Passport Advantage and will be based on a per processor licensing model.

IBM Lotus Sametime 3 and IBM Lotus QuickPlace 3
IBM Lotus Sametime 3 and IBM Lotus QuickPlace 3 are designed to help improve the way people work together and provide reliable and scalable platforms for business collaboration. Sametime 3 is being touted as being the first major software release to provide a standards-based approach to interoperability. This is achieved via the Sametime 3 Instant Messaging Gateway, which is designed to allow companies to connect corporate instant messaging systems with security features.

QuickPlace 3 features enhancements designed to help augment security, make team members more efficient, and enable enterprises to be more productive. IBM also announced the availability of Lotus Web Conferencing, a hosted, pay-per-month service powered by Sametime. It's being delivered as part of the IBM Application Hosting for Dynamic Workplaces initiative.
