DOMINOPOWER SITE OF THE MONTH
Domino resource site puts focus on DXFramework

November's DominoPower Site of the Month is a brand new site created by Steve Castledine. It's designed to provide Domino resources, development methodology, and frameworks. It's called ProjectDX, and you can find it at http://www.projectdx.org. It's pictured in Figure A.

The site has three aims. The first is to provide Web based development tutorials, forums, etc for Domino, second is to launch Castledine's DXFramework methodology and toolset for developing advanced Domino Web applications, and third is to assist people with the gradual movement/merging of Domino and J2EE related technologies.
Castledine intends for the site to appeal to designers at all ability levels. There will be articles showing you how to create Domino Web applications from the ground up, as well as articles on more complex issues such as servlets, J2EE, etc. His overall aim is to guide you on best practice Web development for Domino and provide a bridge between Domino development and WebSphere, J2EE, and so on.
In addition, Castledine says there will soon be an open-source section of the site that will be committed to developing best of breed Web applications for Domino. All these applications will be based around the DXFramework methodology and tools. The first product to be launched through this section will be a new Web mail client for Domino 5 and 6.
Castledine believes that what will set this product apart from others like it is that users will only connect to a single mail database between them. That means there should be no Lotus support problems with changing templates, no replication required of the potential thousands of mail boxes to an external server, less security risks (all data is retained inside a firewall), and less administration, as there's only one database to maintain and update.
