Think locally, sell globally
John de Giorgio sees a number of big advantages to being established in Malta. Shireburn benefits from lower labor costs than you'd find in mainland Europe, yet skill levels are high and English is a native language, the population is very IT literate, and there is a strong work ethic. "We have had to survive for 2,000 years with no natural resources but our people, good communications, and technology," de Giorgio explains. And of course, what could be better for peace of mind than knowing no place on the island is more than four miles from the sea.

It's been fascinating to see how a company from such a small country is able to market its products throughout the world. It's a testament to the power of the Internet and modern global communications. We all benefit from such innovations, as no matter where we may be in the world, our talent and expertise can have far reaching influence.
