DOMINOPOWER SITE OF THE MONTH
QuickPlace used to create crime investigation Web site
By Steve Niles

Our DominoPower Site of the Month belongs to The International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators (IAFCI), an international partnership of investigators from law enforcement, retailers, and consumer credit providers. The organization's new secure, members-only Web site can be found at http://www.iafci.net. It's pictured in Figure A.

The new IAFCI members-only site is secured by SSL 3.0 and Verisign certificates. Roll over picture for a larger image.

The site was developed and is hosted by Echo Technology Group, Inc. (ETG), at http://www.teametg.com. The site was created using Lotus QuickPlace team collaboration software and provides the nearly 4,000 Association members a common environment in which they can collaborate on investigations and find tools, techniques, and up-to-date information in their specialized field.

Besides general information and topical news articles, the site also contains specialized areas, called "rooms," for such things as association administration, technical forums, and regional chapter business.

Even though QuickPlace is customizable, ETG's development staff wanted to use the software's native capabilities. According to Phil Mendes, President and CEO of ETG, "The object and the goal was to help make the Association self-sufficient. Initially, we thought that minimizing customization might limit some of the things that we could do for them, but the QuickPlace product is very feature rich, and that didn't prevent us from meeting the majority of their requirements."

The IAFCI Web site is a great example of QuickPlace at work. Check it out for yourself at http://www.iafci.net.
