Should Lotus do a Linux Notes client? (continued)

Now you're expecting me to make a choice?
Which do I think they should do? Okay. After all that, I think that Lotus should do a Linux client. Why? Because of what it says to the market. It says that the Notes client matters, and that it's a better client than a browser, both from the point of view of developing applications and from the point of the end users, particularly the end user who is connected by a low-bandwidth connection. It says that Lotus understands the real core value of the Notes client, and that is the ability to develop quick wins, deploy them, and move on to the next one, as well as implementing world-class email. It also says that IBM and Lotus are serious in what they say about Linux, and it's another reason for customers to explore Linux---the critical mass issue.

Finally, it sends competitive messages to Microsoft, saying that they aren't going to have the desktop all their own way.
