Automating migrations to multi-user Notes clients (continued)

When performing an upgrade, we will only be selecting the following options:

  • Configuration Name (identifies the action if more than one are present)
  • Notes Version (this is the target version of Notes to install)
  • Path to Notes install files (points to the DATA1.CAB file directory for the target version of Notes)
  • Multi-user installation option
  • Multi-user configuration option

You can see these selected and configured in Figure B.

Running your multi-user upgrade
All that is left is to build your package and then run this package on your clients. When the package executes, the first action is going to create the multi-user Notes data directory for the currently logged on user (Windows logon) and migrate the data to this folder.

The next action (Notes installation/configuration) will take care of creating the All-user data directory, Notes.INI stub, etc.

By selecting "Multi-user config data directory", this action will also update the current user's Notes.INI file (now located in there personal directory, data folder) will the necessary settings for running as a multi-user client.

Let InstallPump do the hard work
When InstallPump runs on a target machine, all steps related to Notes upgrade will be completely automated. InstallPump can automatically detect where the current installation has been placed, saving you the trouble of coding around the multitude of exceptions in your environment. And the best part is that this does not require any desktop visits. What was once a daunting task can now be resolved with only minimal effort.
