A step-by-step guide to installing the Notes client (continued)
Who knew Notes could be so potentially deadly? OK, seriously, there's another clause you and your company may want to be quite aware of before moving on:
You agree to allow IBM to store and use Your contact information, including names, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses, anywhere they do business. Such information will be processed and used in connection with our business relationship, and may be provided to contractors, Business Partners, and assignees of IBM for uses consistent with their collective business activities, including communicating with You (for example, for processing orders, for promotions, and for market research).
In this clause, IBM is basically telling you that your information is theirs to use as they please. Be aware and make good decisions.
In any case, if you're still willing to go forward, select "I accept" and click Next.
Now, it's time to enter your name and that of your company, as shown in Figure D and then click Next.

My name is David Gewirtz. Enter your name. Roll over picture for a larger image.
At this point, you'll be on the screen shown inf Figure E.
FIGURE E

Choose where you want your information stored. Roll over picture for a larger image.
This is a relatively important screen, because you'll want to choose not only where the program is installed (the default location is fine), but also where all your Notes data will go. I usually like to put all my data on a separate drive, although in this case, I was lazy and just let it land in the default directory. Once again, click Next.
Next up, you'll see a screen, like that in Figure F, where you can decide what to install.
FIGURE F

Usually, you can just accept the defaults and click Next. Roll over picture for a larger image.
Normally, given that I've got a bunch of 120GB hard drives, I just let the program install everything. But I really don't need the migration tools, so I let the Notes installer default to leaving them uninstalled. Once you've chosen all the options you want (the defaults are usually fine, by the way), click Next.
You're almost done setting install parameters. The last pre-install option is shown in Figure G.
FIGURE G

Click Install to start things running. Roll over picture for a larger image.
You have the option of making Notes your default email program, if you leave this box checked. Because I have to move between lots of email clients as part of my job as a reviewer and editor, I usually don't let any client proclaim itself to be the default. But you'll probably just leave this checked.
Click Install and we're off to the races, as shown in Figure H.
FIGURE H

I love it when new files are copied to my hard drive. It gives me that fresh, young feeling! Roll over picture for a larger image.
Eventually (it took about five minutes on my machine), the installer will tell you it's done, as you can see in Figure I.
FIGURE I

The Install Wizard has completed its task. Roll over picture for a larger image.
As you can see, the Notes install process is very quick and painless. Perhaps, now that you know how it's done, you can do it yourself. Have fun!
