PRODUCT REVIEW
Teamstudio Delta
By Michael Sobczak
Teamstudio Delta is a very unique product. Originally released in 1998, Delta proves its worth by how well it helps Notes/Domino developers address several unique and challenging circumstances that can arise as part of application development, maintenance, or production support. For example, consider the following scenarios, and how you would address them:
The organization you work for is planning an upgrade from 6.0 to 6.5. Your organization has made several customizations to the mail template. In order for the upgrade to take place, you need to identify all changes made in the customized template and make the same changes to a new customized 6.5 template.
You support two applications that are based on different designs, but are very similar overall. The differences between the applications are both cosmetic (fonts, colors) and workflow related (LotusScript, Javascript). You've just finished implementing several workflow-related changes to one of the databases, and now need to make the same changes to the other database.
A database maintained by users in another part of your organization has recently started working erratically. You've been asked to restore the database to the point before the errors started appearing. The Notes administrator has restored several older versions of the database from backup tape, and you need to figure out which restored database has the versions of the design elements that should be restored in the live database.
You've been asked to fix an application that's been malfunctioning for a long time. You've determined the malfunction is due to there being two views with the same alias in the application. You need to eliminate one of these views, but don't know the difference between them.
Your customer has changed their mind as to how an action button should work. They want to revert back to the way you originally developed it for the prototype, of which you still have a copy. The action that needs to be changed involves a significant amount of LotusScript code. You need to compare what you developed previously, against what's currently in the database in order to determine what changes need to be made.
The best way to address all of these scenarios is to use Teamstudio Delta.
What is Teamstudio Delta? Teamstudio Delta is one of eight applications included with the Teamstudio for Notes suite. Like the other applications in the suite, Delta is delivered as a plug-in to your Notes or Domino Designer client. Appropriately named, Delta can help you efficiently determine the differences (or changes) between two database designs, two design elements, two views of documents, or two individual documents.
