Teamstudio Delta (continued)

After the extraction has completed, open the install.nsf database (titled "Teamstudio for Notes Ed.21") in your Notes client. The database's About document contains information about the current release, including any new features or fixes for each product. You may want to scan this list to see if any problems you've experienced with a previous version of Delta have been addressed in this release. The About document also includes a release number chart you can use to verify the version of the product installed on your computer.

Be sure to install only the Teamstudio products you've paid for. Installing the other products won't hurt anything, as they have a small footprint and won't affect your Notes client performance. You'll only be able to use those products you have a valid license key for though.

The installer may not be able to run if other Teamstudio applications are already running. In this case, the installer will disable those applications and ask you to restart Notes and start the installation process again.

Once the installation program has completed, you'll be prompted to restart Notes in order to use the product you just installed. After you restart Notes, you'll notice a new Teamstudio toolbar containing a button (a.k.a. Smarticon), seen in Figure A, which you'll use to launch Delta.

Entering the Delta Quadrant
To launch Delta, select the database icon of the first database you want to compare in the Notes workspace and click on the Teamstudio Delta Toolbar button. If you use Bookmarks instead, click on the appropriate bookmark to open the first database you want to compare.

If this is the first time you're launching Delta, or you've upgraded to a newer version of the product, a Serial Number dialog box will appear, shown in Figure B.

Enter the Serial Number and Activation Key you received from Teamstudio into this dialog box. Roll over picture for a larger image.

You must enter a valid serial number and activation key before you'll be able to use the product. These will be sent to you by email after your order for Delta has been processed.

Using Delta
The majority of the time, I use Delta to compare two different versions of the same database. For example, I'll compare the production database with an older copy or template. Or I'll compare a production template against a new version of the template I'm currently making changes to.

Delta also has three additional comparison utilities you should be aware of, as they may be able to help you resolve a unique situation or problem where a comparison is needed. I'll describe each of the four comparison utilities available in Delta below.

Comparing two databases
After you've entered the serial number and activation key you received, the initial Teamstudio Delta dialog box you see in Figure C will appear.

The file path of the database you selected (or was open) when you launched Delta will appear in the Database 1 and Database 2 fields. You can change the Database 2 value by either typing in the file path of the database to compare to Database 1, or select it by using the Select button. Thankfully, both NSF and NTF files are automatically listed in the Select Application file chooser dialog box in Figure D.
