THE DOMINOPOWER INTERVIEW
Inside a Notes consultancy
By David Gewirtz
We continue our series of interviews with Lotus Business Partners. The DominoPower Interview series has become very popular, in part because it really gives Lotus professionals out there a deep and personal insight into many of the companies (and, more important, the people) that make up the Lotus professional community.
Over the past year, we've gotten to know the team at Teamstudio and this week, we're able to learn more about what's going on with the company and some of the changes that have taken place recently.
In this interview, we'll talk to Ian Smith and Mark Collison, who've moved into new roles within the company. If you're interested in how a technical consultancy works, this is definitely an interview you'll want to read.
David: Please introduce yourselves, help us understand how the management structure at Teamstudio has changed, and give us some of your personal backgrounds.
Ian and Mark: The significant changes to the management team revolve around role definitions. Nigel Cheshire, CEO and Mark Dixon, CTO, founders of the Teamstudio business have been spending more time over the last two years developing the Java side of our group. Ian Smith, president, will now work exclusively on the Lotus Notes side of the business to broaden its technology offerings beyond the original tools business and to continue to strengthen the Teamstudio brand.
Mark Collison, vice president of Teamstudio Consulting and our Lotus Notes Chief Architect Craig Schumann are working closely with Ian developing strategies to address the broader issues within the Lotus Notes community, from development and deployment through to production. We are calling this approach Software Asset Management.
Ian's experience has been gained over the last 25 years building both private and public corporations mainly in the IT sector. He has worked at senior management level with Thomsons, the Canadian Publishing giant, Mercury Asset Management, and Capita, the European outsourcing Group.
Since joining Teamstudio five years ago, Ian has broadened Teamstudio's technology beyond its core tools expertise into advisory and configured software work, generating record sales in 2005. Educated in Scotland, he holds degrees and professional qualifications in economics, marketing and finance.
Mark's 18 years of experience started in the aerospace industry with Dowty Group plc before moving on to Price Waterhouse, the leading global financial and business consultancy firm. From there Mark moved to a growing public group where he had senior financial and operational responsibility for operations in the UK and France.
