SECURITY ALERT
Daylight Savings Time changes and Lotus products
By David Gewirtz

We interrupt our regular programming for a special announcement. As you know, we've been analyzing the Lotusphere 2007 announcements in substantial depth, and we've got a lot more analysis to come.

However, the United States Congress has decided to take a break from, oh, watching over the war to screw with all our heads ... and our clocks. Daylight Savings Time has been moved forward three weeks, to March 11.

As you might imagine, this has all sorts of implications. Howard Greenberg of The Learning Continuum Company, a longtime friend of the magazine, has been studying this issue in some depth.

He's kindly consented to let us reprint three notes he's run in TLCC's newsletter, which will give us all a better understanding of how this impacts your Notes and Domino installations.

Daylight Savings Time changes and the effects on Lotus products
IBM has published a technote on changes to Daylight Savings Time (DST) and the effect on Lotus products. This technote covers all of the Lotus brand products. This information should be reviewed by all administrators responsible for servers.

IBM releases Agents and Documentation to help with Daylight Savings Time change
IBM has released agents to fix calendar entries in the user's mail database and entries in the Rooms and Resources database. The fixes are needed to account for the new start and end dates when Daylight Savings Time is in effect.

IBM has also released a Deployment Guide to help guide administrators regarding this change and what has to be done for Lotus products. IBM has also released an executive summary detailing the issues that may arise regarding the Daylight Savings Time changes.
