The White House email controversy: a detour into mob journalism (continued)

The Coptix case is a perfect example. There may really be a story in the missing White House email messages. And it could be big. But because of this pile-on effect, the virtual equivalent of crying wolf, it may be harder to find the truth among all the unsupported claims.

For us here at ZATZ, doing our best to conduct objective journalism, it gets just a bit harder. As we look further into the questions surrounding the White House email debate, we're finding that we can't reliably accept blog or media reports as valid sources.

And that's why, you may have noticed, we've gone straight to the actual source. Rather than quoting newspapers quoting press briefings at the White House, we're giving you links to the actual briefings. The same is true of the Leahy subpoena, where we linked directly to the Senator's own documents.

We will continue to look into this case. But we're going to do our absolute best to give you access to the original sources we've found, so you can do your own analysis as well.

Hopefully, we'll be able to avoid more childish detours into mob journalism.
