Exploring Domino Web Access Lite: the new low-bandwidth option in Lotus Domino 8.01 (continued)

FIGURE E

Debugging is half the fun. Roll over picture for a larger image.

Finally let's review some of the product limitations. DWA Lite does not support sending secure messages. If trying to send a secure message, you'll receive a pop-up directing you to use the Full mode. There are also some known issues regarding retaining sort view settings. The sort settings will be retained in each session, but not across sessions.

Another known issue, is that the redirect opens the mail file in Full Mode even if the default mode is set to Lite Mode using the iNotes_WA_DefaultUI=dwa_lite parameter. This will occur even if the login options are hidden from the user in the DWA Redirect. This issue is currently being investigated by Lotus Development. For more information on known issues and more, review the 8.01 release notes and search the Lotus Notes Knowledge Base.

As you can see, DWA Lite can be an ideal solution to assist traveling and low-bandwidth users. It utilizes a new page architecture to provide a consistent user interface across Domino Web Access modes. This article has offered an overview of the functionality and some basic troubleshooting suggestions along with known issues.

When deciding to implement the DWA Lite as a solution it is important to remember to test this out in your environment. Using this new functionality can improve the user experience for those that are traveling or regularly using public kiosks.
