KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT
Second generation Knowledge Management and the next level of collaborative knowledge sharing
By Bain McKay
In the last article (at http://www.dominopower.com/tocs/issue200112.html) we discussed how second generation Knowledge Management can harness unstructured documents in QuickPlace for collaborative knowledge sharing, and how a pattern-based approach through multidimensional hyperspace can leverage document knowledge concepts to optimize knowledge reuse.
In this article I'll address how dynamic multidimensional hyperspace can work for knowledge management and why search is unable to meet the challenge.
Built the way we work 2G-KM (Second Generation Knowledge Management) is built on Learning Theory using high-dimensional active-reflexive, fractal, semantic, spatial indexing to deliver a dynamically intelligent and scalable knowledge indexing architecture. It automatically recognizes, captures, preserves, and leverages knowledge concepts and relationships in document libraries for improved knowledge reuse, knowledge worker productivity, corporate knowledge sharing, and faster, more timely learning.
2G-KM technology must be delivered with easy to learn and uniquely powerful off-the-shelf compute-inexpensive knowledge management applications that are built using a RAD (Rapid Application Development) 2G-KM SDK (Software Development Kit). This provides the opportunity to enhance knowledge applications through the SDK for vendor and in-house customer Knowledge Management applications on standard computing architectures.
Why is such a different approach required to facilitate productive corporate knowledge management environments, and why is it so effective? Read on.
The need for a better approach Knowledge is a relative thing. It's gauged by proximity in relation to those with whom you interact. Thus, the ability to leverage relative proximity to derive associative relationships dynamically becomes a key determinant in 2G-KM value-added.
While there are no absolute measures in knowledge management, there are relative measures in the re-usage of concept relationships that resonate with successful corporate outcomes. Knowledge Management is about leveraging reusable concepts in combinatory patterns that optimize business profit. Such re-usages reflect what works, how well it works, and what doesn't work. Orchestrating the resonance of knowledge usage, sharing, and leveraging is fundamental to corporate success. The ability of corporations to recognize, learn, react, and leverage what works, and to shed that which doesn't, can effect corporate success in the challenging times we face today.
