IBM answers your tough R7 questions

Back in June, we told you we had a special and unique opportunity to pass along your questions about R7 to IBM Lotus executives. We promised we'd publish answers to those questions at a future time. That time is now. In this very special article, IBM Lotus executives Ed Brill and Rob Ingram provide answers to some of your toughest questions.

Ed Brill is Business Unit Executive, Worldwide Lotus Messaging Sales, IBM Software Group.
In this position, Ed is responsible for the continued success of Lotus Notes and Domino. Ed works with the IBM sales organization, IBM business partners, and customers daily to provide insight into the Lotus strategy, product direction, and market successes. He leverages this in-market experience to provide insight and direction to the Notes/Domino product and marketing organizations, ensuring constant improvement and responsiveness. Ed also has a very popular Lotus-related blog, located at http://www.edbrill.com.
Rob Ingram is the lead Domino product manager in the IBM Lotus Product Management organization, based in Westford, MA. He has broad responsibility for the Domino Messaging and Collaboration product strategy. Rob previously held a variety of positions at IBM including product management responsibility for Lotus' mobile and wireless products and a variety of marketing roles at Lotus Development Corporation in EMEA which he joined in 1987.

DominoPower reader Tayfun Karabayir: Is there a clear progressive road map for DB2 integration in the future releases of Domino?
Ed and Rob: Plans for the DB2 integration roadmap include broadening the platforms supported beyond Microsoft Windows and AIX in 7.0, and additional application development capabilities beyond Data Access Views and Query Views. Customer feedback will determine the priorities for these functions.
DominoPower reader Kevin Hill: What will change in the way that Domino 7 stores data? If we talk of DB2 storage, how does this translate for the design elements from the Domino Designer?
Ed and Rob: Lotus Domino 7.0's use of a DB2-enabled database will store everything typically stored in NSF. This means all notes that are part of the application (i.e., documents, design elements) are stored seamlessly so Domino developers will not need to change the way they work.
