THOSE AMAZING USERS
The Notes calendar: scheduling to infinity and beyond!
By Nancy Hand
Users amaze me. And, as admistrator for 3,000 Notes 6.5 users, I'm frequently amazed.
For example, a user I'll call "George" said a meeting he'd scheduled for next Tuesday had suddenly vanished from his calendar.
I opened the Domino server console and typed in, "tell shed show George Smith/Site1" to see how far out he was scheduling meetings. Old meetings scroll past. Then meetings for this year. When meetings for 2119 rolled by I was surprised. But I rubbed my eyes in disbelief as the last two came into view: August 19, 3004 and September 29, 4004, as shown in Figure A.

As Admin, I opened George's calendar. The 120 years of anniversaries were easy to find. I deleted all anniversaries repeating beyond 2010. Two entries displayed error messages, "Unable to locate parent document. All instances will be deleted."
I didn't think George would miss the entries. Next Tuesday's meeting was still missing.
I typed in "tell sched validate George Smith/Site1" and "tell sched show George Smith/Site1" at the console again. Most of the entries between 2010 and 2127 were gone. The meetings in 3004 and 4004 were still there.
I closed George's file and reopened it while holding down the Ctrl+Shift keys to see hidden views. George has about 200 folders visible without this option, but this time I noticed a personal folder named Meetings.
I opened his calendar and selected the Meetings view. It looked like his Inbox. I renamed his personal folder from "Meetings" to "George's Meetings". Now when I opened the Meetings view in his calendar it displayed correctly but the missing meeting was still missing. No meetings showed for 2127, 3004, or 4004.
I called Lotus Support and was told to turn off the scheduler by typing "tell sched quit" and "tell calconn quit" at the server console. Then I was asked to open "clubusy.nsf" on the primary and cluster servers.
My Notes Admin ID didn't have rights to open the files so I selected File, Database, Open from the menu and used the Browse button to locate the files on the servers. George's calendar profile was in the list, twice, right above a replication conflict document. I was told to delete all three entries in both databases and restart the scheduler.
I typed "load sched" and "load calconn" at the Domino console and went for a cup of coffee while George's profile rebuilt. I ran "tell sched show" again. George's calendar was clear from December 2010 to August 2204. He still had meetings in 3004 and 4004 and the one for next Tuesday was still missing. I called Lotus back.
