Backup methods for Domino Backing up Domino presents a set of technology issues and backup requirements similar to other database systems. The crude solution is to shut down the server, back up, and bring the server back online -- but since Domino is a Web server, 24/7 is the expectation. The most elegant solutions use sophisticated backup software capable of open file management and an investment in additional hardware for clustering. Technical Editor Ron Herardian helps you understand the options.
Getting started with JavaScript development in Domino Domino 5.0 includes native support for JavaScript. Finally the same code you developed for your Web-based clients can be interpreted by the R5 client. In this valuable article, Contributing Editor (and author of Practical LotusScript) Tony Patton tells you how to get started and points you to some great online resources. |

Lotus EasySync is as easy as 1-2-3 Contributing Editor Dan Velasco is back and so it should come as no surprise that this article will be meaty, helpful, and (because it's from Dan) mentions such things as underwear, R5, lust and something dirty-sounding called Slow Sync-ing. You'll want to read Dan's article. You'll learn stuff about Notes, your Palm device, and a bit more about Dan than you might really want.
Don't get monkeyed with: a short guide to Lotus training Contributing Editor Dan Velasco has calculated that Lotus training courses cost a dollar a minute (or more). Of course, Lotus training is cheaper than phone sex (so he tells us), but that doesn't mean you should let yourself get screwed. Lotus training courses have a lot to offer, but you need to take responsibility for getting the most out of them. In this important article Dan will show you how to get the most bang for your buck.
Get twisted and change your twisties This is a twisted business. Need proof? The little expand/collapse icons in Notes views are called "twisties". Now, have you ever wanted to change these icons to something else? Ever get tired of those little triangle things? If so, this is the article for you. Shabbir Tayeb-Ali writes all the way from Pakistan with some easy hacks for twists and a slick bit of JavaScript to change your icons on the fly.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Two kudos and a complaint to Lotus This month, we've got some very interesting Letters to the Editor. Two are among the many heartfelt letters we get from readers telling us just how incredibly, amazingly, wonderfully, overwhelmingly grateful they are for the magazine (OK, well, at least they like us). And then, we run an interesting letter pointing out a curious Lotus licensing policy. If you put up Domino sites, you'll want to read and ponder this important letter.
